Athletics: There are a variety of recreational sports that students may participate in through the City of Charleston Recreation Department. Students may also participate in Hanahan High School sports.

Chess Club is a fun social environment for kids to learn chess, make friends and discover higher level analytic reasoning and applied knowledge from experience.  The hope is to develop greater community wide participation to promote chess tournaments among other elementary and middle schools. Chess Club meets twice a week: Tuesday and Thursday. (Grades 2-8)

Chorus is a class where students explore all types of music from folk to classical to pop through performance. They work to perform several times throughout the year. (Grades 6-8)

Concert Band from 3:15PM - 4:45PM on Tuesdays. (Grades 7-8)

DIS National Junior Beta Club is for students in 7th and 8th grade who have demonstrated exemplary scholarship and character. Students who are invited to join Beta develop leadership skills as they participate in various service projects. The club has over 150 members this year who are busy visiting the local nursing home, assisting with PTA events, organizing the Veterans Day celebration, conducting school clean-ups, honoring our local first responders, helping needy children enjoy the holidays, welcoming new students to DIS, and so much more! (Grades 7-8) 

Drama Lights, Camera, Action! This class finds their inner actor through class activities including learning the basic skills necessary for theatrical productions, reading and analyzing plays and evaluating performances. (Grades 6-8)

Osprey Engineering Club is a club that sets out to teach its members the basics of engineering and construction through our efforts when building trebuchets and other products for competition.  Our students learn how to problem solve by using the design process, work in teams to solve problems, learn how to use the various tools while building our products, and learn how to design, model, and test our products before the competitions.
Club Fees:  $20.00 per student; 
Meetings:  Mondays 3:00 - 3:45, Thursdays 3:00 - 4:45, Some Saturdays; 
Competitions:  USC Pumpkin Chunkin, Storm the Citadel, Berkeley County CTE Competition

Run Hard is gearing up for its first season at Daniel Island School. Run Hard is an eight week program that focuses on helping kids understand their potential when they work hard towards a specific goal. Participants will train to finish a 3.1 mile race while incorporating character values that will help them understand and reach their potential. The program will begin in October with the race December 5th. Log on to the website for more details,www.runhard.org.
 
Step Art will begin Tuesday, September 22nd.

STEP Musical Theater is a club for 3-8th graders who are identified as Gifted and Talented in music or drama.  We meet weekly after school and explore all aspects of the American musical and technical theater. (Grades 3-8)
