We are extremely grateful to the Summerville Rotary Club for its donation to Cane Bay Choirs, and to Al Bradham, Tony Pope, and Robert Pratt for matching that donation. The Rotary presented a check to our Director, William Bennett January 22, 2020 for $2,650.00. A fine example of a community organization supporting us!

2019 State Champions!

On Thursday, April 25, 2019, Cobra Chorale and Ladies Honors Choir traveled to Laurens, SC for performances at the Palmetto State Choral Championships.  We competed against 20 of the best choirs from across SC. 

Ladies Honors Choir earned 1st place in the Division 5 Women's Choir Category and were 2nd overall in Division 5!  Cobra Chorale earned 1st place in Division 6 (the highest division) mixed choir and 1st Overall in Division 6!  Additionally, Ladies Honors Choir placed 5th overall regardless of class and were the top Treble ensemble at the festival earning the Treble Choir State Championship for the 2nd year in a row!  Cobra Chorale was named the GRAND CHAMPION of the festival marking our 2nd State Championship!!

Bravo to our students for their work!!  Thank you all for your support of our students this year!  We hope that this brings some Cobra Nation pride to you and that we have represented our school and community well!  Go Cobras!!

The Cane Bay High School Cobra Chorale was selected as a 2017 semi-finalist in the Youth and High School Chorus division of The American Prize national non-profit competitions in the performing arts. You can learn more about this prestigious national competition here:

About Us

The Cane Bay Choirs, under the direction of William Bennett are 5 choirs comprised of 200 students in grades 9 - 12. The Cobra Chorale were the 2016 AAAA SC State Champions, and performed at the 2016 Southern Division ACDA Convention. The Ladies Honors Choir was the 2016 Lander Choral Festival Grand Champion, and performed at the 2015 SCACDA Convention. Cane Bay Choirs perform 4 major concerts each year with great reviews from parents and faculty. The Choirs also provide the National Anthem and Alma Mater for all home football games, basketball games and school assemblies and perform at many community events throughout the year. Students in the Cane Bay Choirs participate in the SCACDA State Honor Choirs, the SCMEA All-State Chorus, the Berkeley County All-County Chorus, the ACDA Regional and National Honor Choirs, the SCMEA Solo and Ensemble festival and the SCMEA State Choral Festival.

Cobra Chorale:

The Cobra Chorale is the top performing mixed voice ensemble at Cane Bay High School in Summerville, SC. In addition to 4 major concerts annually, they also perform at school and community functions, present an annual Holiday Madrigal Dinner, and perform on the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston. The Cobra Chorale has performed featured concerts at the 2016 Southern Division ACDA Conference, the 2015 and 2011 SCMEA State In-Service Conferences, the 2018 and 2013 SC ACDA Fall Conference and the 2012 North Charleston Arts Festival. Cobra Chorale consistently receives "Superior with Distinction" ratings at State and Regional Festivals, and were named the 2019 Palmetto State Choral Championships’ Grand Champion. Additionally, they were the Grand Champion of the 2018 Georgia Southern Invitational, the 2017 College of Charleston Invitational and were the 2016 AAAA SC State Champions. Students in the Cane Bay Choirs participate in the ACDA State, Regional and National Honor Choirs, the SCMEA All-State Choirs, the Berkeley County All-County Chorus, 9-10 All Carolina Select Choir at Wingate University, the SCMEA Solo and Ensemble festival and the SCMEA Concert Performance Assessment.

Vox Bellator

Vox Bellator is the top performing treble ensemble at Cane Bay. Vox was named the SC Treble Choir State Champions in 2018 and 2019 at the Palmetto State Choral Championships; performed a featured concert at the 2015 SC ACDA State Conference, and were the 2016 Lander Choral Festival Grand Champions. They consistently receive Superior Ratings with Distinction in performance and sight-singing at the SCMEA Concert Performance Assessment and other festivals across the southeast. In addition to major concerts, Vox Bellator performs at school and community functions throughout the year, and present an annual performance of the Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten. Members of this ensemble also participate in State, Regional and National ACDA Honor Choirs; the 9-10 All-Carolina Select Choir; SCMEA All-state Chorus; BCSD All-county chorus; and Solo and Ensemble festival.

Concert Choir:

This class focuses on music reading, fundamentals of singing and performance, and prepares students for advancement in the choral department by focusing on upper level choral technique, sightreading and musicianship skills, music theory and music history. No audition is required for placement into this ensemble. This class is fast paced and will performs on all major concerts as members of the Concert Choir. William Bennett, Director of Choirs.
