About CBM

Cane Bay Plantation is home to Cane Bay Elementary, Cane Bay Middle and Cane Bay High schools.

Cane Bay Middle School is helping all students develop the characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a comprehensive, rigorous academic program that integrates a full complement of opportunities to promote the development of well-rounded students.

Our teachers work together in Professional Learning Communities to ensure implementation of research based strategies.  Our Instructional Coach supports this collaboration by providing resources and research. CBM intervention staff also support PLCs and student success by ensuring access to accommodations and other specialized needs. Students can access re-teaching time, credit recovery, and intervention for content areas to improve academic achievement.

With District support of collaboration among a cohort of schools implementing STEAM, school-to-school sharing and a visioning process for what STEAM integration means for our school environment, we have added innovations including Project/Problem Based Learning with Genius Hour, the initiation of our garden area, and the addition of several pilot related arts classes. Other academic extensions such as Robotics, Trebuchet, and QUEST provide experiences beyond the classroom that engage students in authentic experiences related to content. We were delighted to host the “Robotics Rumble” again this year.  All staff members continued to sponsor Early Release Day clubs to provide extracurricular extensions and community building.

School-wide character education and service projects further enhance the Cane Bay vision for excellence.  Wrap around supports include small group and classroom guidance, anti-bullying/anti-violence intervention via "Cobra Confidential", and student-to-student supports such as Junior Cobra to Cobra.  Holiday dinner and toy drives, Junior Beta Club activities supporting the Lowcountry Food Bank, and smaller drives by various clubs have established a tradition of service at CBM. Student of the Month and Renaissance recognitions regularly emphasize the importance of good character and hard work in meeting school expectations and our data shows that students take their responsibilities seriously.

Connections to Career and College opportunities include STEM-based field experiences, dissections, Gateway to Technology projects, and club projects.  Active co-curricular and extracurricular clubs in STEAM, fine arts, and academic challenges build students' connections to learning beyond the classroom. Our career counselor and teachers work together to invite multiple guest speakers and create in-class activities that build relevance to our standards-based curriculum.

Since the creation of Cane Bay Middle in 2012, our students, staff, and community have established a caring, academically committed environment.  We look forward to maintaining and growing our focus on excellence in the coming years and appreciate the support of the Cane Bay Community in helping develop future South Carolina graduates and leaders.
