Academics
Mission
We facilitate and support student-driven learning experiences by unleashing the power and potential of education.
Vision
Create a future we dare to imagine and make a positive difference.
The curriculum, instruction, and assessment procedures at Cane Bay Middle School are aligned to South Carolina and Berkeley County School District expectations.
All students attend four content area classes and one of two Related Arts classes each day for at least a semester. Core content classes are English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Students with Individual Education Plans (IEP) or Section 504 plans may have specialized schedules.
Our curriculum is based on the South Carolina College and Career Readiness Standards in all content areas. To view these standards, please visit the SC Department of Education website.
Related arts classes available to students vary by grade level. Most related arts classes are one semester long, although some are year long. A description of Related Arts courses is available in the Teachers section of our website.
Students who meet the district's Criteria for Selection into Honors/GT classes will be served through English Language Arts and/or mathematics classes.
All classes at CBM use the following grade weightings:
o Personal Outside Practice (POP, Homework)– 20%
o Minor Assessments – 35%
o Major Assessments – 45%
Support for students who may need additional resources is available. Each teacher sets aside time to provide additional help. Please contact your child’s teacher or the school counselor if you have a specific concern so that we can provide support!
