Cainhoy Elementary Library

Welcome to the Cainhoy Elementary School Media Center

Our library is an active and engaged library where students participate in many activities related to information literacy, technology and robotics.  We are lucky to have Pricilla Calcutt, the BCSD’s Director of Instructional Technology, with us three days a week working with groups of our third, fourth and fifth graders. Students are sorted into a Tech Team where they learn how to work together and communicate effectively while getting hands-on experience with programming, the engineering design process and innovative technologies.  These lucky students will become the “teachers” and guide instruction when our school gets to visit the ITOW truck. ITOW stands for Innovative Technology on Wheels and it is a mobile innovation lab that travels to schools.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Library at Cainhoy Elementary School (CHE) is to enrich the lives of students by putting students' needs first, by offering them a variety of opportunities and experiences related to printed and electronic materials and teaching them information literacy to encourage them to be life-long learners and positive contributors to their community.

You may view Cainhoy's Destiny Catalog to see what books we have to offer.

Lori McCarthy

Ms. Lori McCarthy

My name is Lori McCarthy and I am excited to be the Library Media Specialist here at Cainhoy Elementary!

Although I grew up with a father in the U.S. Navy and we moved around a lot, I am originally from Berkeley County and attended Berkeley County schools during my elementary and high school years. Afterwards, I attended Charleston Southern University where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. I was first a classroom teacher, teaching second and then fourth grade. I then earned my Master's Degree in Library and Information Science and became a School Library Media Specialist. This is my 16th year as a School Library Media Specialist.

I hope to make the library at Cainhoy a fun and exciting place that engages the minds of our students and encourages them to become lifelong readers and learners.
