ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Cross High School

Our school is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by clearly communicating, modeling, and supporting the mantra, “Education is The Key That Unlocks the Doors to a Brighter Future” as well as 'Expecting Excellence Everyday'. It is represented in our vision, mission, instructional and behavioral support practices. We are continuing our emphasis on improving the quality of instruction and strengthening relationships inside and outside of our building. Our students continue to benefit from our comprehensive curriculum, which includes college preparatory, honors, Advanced Placement, dual-credit and quality (CTE) courses with an emphasis on careers. Students are able to take courses through various formats – traditional, virtual, on-line, and blended learning. South Carolina Virtual Schools, A Plus, Mastery Connect, and USA Test preparation are utilized to provide opportunities for students to recover lost and earn initial credit and content to remain on track for graduation, for bench marking, and for remediation/acceleration. As we try to prepare our students to take more dual-credit courses, where they will earn a college credit, we have started our higher level 9th graders into the AP courses. With this route, their senior year can be solely dual-credit coursework.

With our student body being very transient, it reflects in our graduation rate. It has been noticed that our students who are truly from this area, all graduate and graduate on time. Our students continue to excel and many were recognized individually for both academic and athletic excellence. Our academic and athletic award celebrations, and marching band superlatives are only a few of the many ways our students are recognized and rewarded for their efforts. Our CTE students were state officers for SkillsUSA, competed at the FBLA national conference. 12 of our students earned their forklift certification, being the first in the district as well as 5 earned the ManuFirst certification, giving them a year of manufacturing experience. We are also excited to start a welding program.

We continue to acknowledge that, while we as a faculty and staff are all working diligently at Cross High to ensure every child reaches her/his potential and has a quality education, we need and welcome the help of parents and the community. Many efforts, including but not limited to our annual “Kids/Community Day”, Title-1 parent education sessions, school/community based literacy forums/initiatives, and starting an Adult Education program assists us to foster stronger relationships between the community and the school as well as —relationships that we value and see as essential in the education of our students.
