Director of Bands

Tyler L. Holliday is the director of bands at the Berkeley Center for the Arts at Goose Creek High School, where he leads the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Spirit of Gold Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band and chamber ensembles. Under his baton, the bands of Goose Creek & Berkeley Center for the Arts have placed high at marching competitions, received superior ratings at festivals and placed over 100 students in All-County and Region/All-State Band. During the 2021-22 school year, he served as the assistant director of bands and director of orchestra at Goose Creek High. Under his direction, he led the GCH String Orchestra to a performance at the Carowinds Festival of Music where they received a "Superior" rating. In addition to his duties as director of bands, Mr. Holliday serves as a co-sponsor for Beta Club. As a sponsor, he has traveled with the club to Orlando and Nashville as the school competed at the National Beta Club Convention. Several students placed in the top five in numerous categories. He is an active member of the Charleston Wind Symphony, where he plays French Horn. Prior to his appointment at GCH, he served as the choral director at Starr-Iva Middle School and taught elementary music at Duncan Chapel Elementary School in Greenville, SC. During his time at Duncan Chapel, he grew the chorus program to almost double its size and helped numerous students place in the South Carolina Music Education Association Youth Choir.

Mr. Holliday received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Winthrop University, where he studied under Dr. Lorrie Crochet, Dr. Julia McCallum, Dr. Douglas Presley and Bob Rydel. He is currently pursuing his Master of Arts in Music Education from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. He is an active member of the National Association for Music Education, the National Band Association and the South Carolina Band Directors Association. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, he worked on the staff of York Comprehensive High School, studying with Douglas W. Brooks and Laura C. Brooks. During his time there, he assisted in the growth in size, skill and recognition of the program. The band was named a SCBDA 4A state marching band finalist four years consecutively and a bronze medalist his last two years. In 2017, the band competed at the Winston-Salem Bands of America Regional, a first in the school's history, and was a top 10 finalist. In 2018, the YCH Wind Ensemble was selected to perform on the prestigious Carnegie Hall stage in New York City. Mr. Holliday completed his internship at Banks Trail Middle School with retired mentor teacher, Kirk Godbey, where he helped run the 150+ middle school band program. Under his assistance, he led students through a performance in Orlando.

Originally from Greenville, SC, he now resides in Charleston, SC where he is an active performer, conductor and podcaster. During his free time, he enjoys traveling, writing music and binge-watching his favorite television series.
