Howe Hall AIMS School Counseling

counselor

Ms. Beth Knight

Welcome back to another school year! My name is Beth Knight. I feel privileged to be the school counselor at Howe Hall AIMS for 17 years and have been a school counselor in Berkeley County for 29 years. Previously, I taught 1st and 2nd grades at Boulder Bluff Elementary School for 5 years. Since many of you did not have a school counselor in elementary school, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself and what an elementary school counselor does.

I am originally from the small town of Bamberg, SC. I have a younger brother, Stan, who lives in Florida. I attended Columbia College my freshman year and majored in music with an emphasis on voice. I transferred to the College of Charleston and changed my major to Elementary Education with a Minor in Music. I went on to graduate school and completed my Master of Education degree in School Counseling at The Citadel. I think I have found a perfect fit here at Howe Hall AIMS having both of my loves -the arts and academics together in one environment.

I have 2 awesome boys, Jack is a senior at the University of South Carolina majoring in visual communications and Cade is a 12th grader at Hanahan High School who loves all sports and video production.

At Howe Hall AIMS Elementary School, each child in grades K-5 has classroom guidance biweekly for 30-45 minutes. During this time, I teach the children skills that will enable them to be successful students, and productive citizens, which is, in fact, the mission of our school! We cover topics such as Study Skills, Mindsets, Individual Differences, Safety, Decision Making, Manners, Friendship, Communication, and Careers. I use a variety of techniques such as storytelling, smartboard lessons, games, and videos, to demonstrate specific strategies to help children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills along with achieving academic and personal successes.
