The Role of Professional School Counselors

The purpose of school counselors is to provide a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program for all students. Professional school counselors are responsible for helping students with academic, personal/social, and career issues.

While assisting students with issues, school counselors consider each student’s background and any external influences.

As a professional school counselor, I work with students, teachers, parents, and administrators to effectively meet the needs of students through collaboration. I serve students by providing individual counseling, small group counseling, classroom guidance and program development.
