Dr. Hoots has over 40 years of experience in education and a diverse professional resume at both the elementary, middle and high school levels. She received her Master’s in Special Education from Fayetteville State University and her doctoral degree in administration and supervision from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Hoots began her career as an interim kindergarten teacher before accepting a special education position at Cape Fear High School. She served as a special educator in Cumberland County and Wake County, North Carolina as a resource teacher, inclusion teacher, and self-contained teacher.
Dr. Hoots’ career also led her to become a district compliance specialist and a Director of Special Education in Franklin County, North Carolina. She has served as an assistant principal, and principal, of both a middle and high schools. Dr. Hoots also spent time working with the Horry County Alternative Education School. In addition, she also served in various administrative roles at the high, middle and elementary school levels.
In 2018, Dr. Hoots relocated to Berkeley County School District as a coordinator/instructional specialist for our Special Services Department. She served as Interim Principal at Nexton Elementary during the 2019 -2010 school year, and was named as permanent principal in March of 2020. She says that her passion has always been to serve children and the community, and she is excited and honored to be a part of the Nexton Elementary family.
