Berkeley County School District is excited to recognize its three graduates of the 2023 Project SEARCH program: Kalib Gibbs, Haley Craft and Alex Gray. All three students attended Hanahan High.
District and County officials celebrated the graduates at a special ceremony held May 26 at the Berkeley County Government office building in Moncks Corner.
Project SEARCH prepares young people with special needs for success in employment opportunities. Throughout the school year, these students work in departments at Berkeley County Government and develop skills and training to prepare them for future jobs.
Berkeley County Supervisor Johnny Cribb addressed the program graduates during the event and said they became an important part of the county team as they each learned several job skills in multiple departments.
“We sincerely call this our favorite day of the year,” Cribb said. “This is truly an important day.”
The program is made possible in Berkeley County thanks to county leadership, and through multiple community partnerships. BCSD Acting Chief of Academics and Innovation Dr. Denise Ling was among several in attendance to thank those behind making Project SEARCH a success.
“We know that we couldn’t have a program as wonderful as Project SEARCH without the partnerships that we have. …We are doing our collective duty to broaden their horizons and provide the opportunities for them to be the future ready citizens that we all want in Berkeley County.”
This is the sixth year of the program, and those with Berkeley County Government and BCSD say it continues to improve each year. Project SEARCH instructor Dan Davidson confirmed there will be additional partnerships for the 2023-24 school year that will provide more opportunities and job skill growth for participants.
