Angela Simmons, BCSD board members and original WES student

Berkeley County School District employee Angela Simmons made a special presentation to the BCSD School Board regarding the history of Whitesville Elementary. Simmons, along with other members of the Whitesville community, wanted to ensure there was representation in the school district's memorabilia gallery of the historical role played by Whitesville Elementary.

The first Whitesville Elementary building was opened in 1956, as an elementary school for African American students. The demographics of the school changed with the integration process, during the 1969-70 school year. Simmons presented the school district with a plaque and a photo of the original faculty.
