At the Monday, June 26, 2023 meeting of the Berkeley County Board of Education, board members approved the appointments of two school-level administrators. Ashley McAlister was named principal of Howe Hall AIMS (HHA) and Brooke Melcher was named principal of Hanahan Elementary School (HES).
Their new positions take effect July 3.
Ashley McAlister, Principal of Howe Hall AIMS (HHA)
Ashley McAlister joined the Berkeley County School District as a teacher at Devon Forest Elementary in 1997. After devoting a decade of service in the classroom, McAlister assumed responsibilities as an ACT 135 school-wide curriculum facilitator and assistant principal at Daniel Island School. In 2010, McAlister was named the assistant principal at Westview Elementary (WVE) and worked with the WVE Whales for seven years. For the past six years, McAlister has served as the assistant principal of Howe Hall AIMS.
"Ms. McAlister is poised and ready to assume the leadership of Howe Hall AIMS," said BCSD Superintendent Dr. Anthony Dixon. "She is a seasoned administrator, and her passion for HHA, her students, and the arts shined bright during her interview. We are excited to support her in this new role, and have no doubt that our Chameleons will continue their pursuit of excellence in art and education under the leadership of Ms. McAlister."
Brooke Melcher, Principal of Hanahan Elementary
Brooke Melcher joined the Berkeley County School District as a teacher at Sangaree Intermediate in 2008. After devoting a decade of service in the classroom at Sangaree Intermediate and Hanahan Elementary, Melcher assumed responsibilities as the reading coach at Marrington Elementary. In 2019, Melcher was named the assistant principal at Marrington Elementary (MNE) and has worked with the MNE Pathfinders for the past four years.
"Ms. Melcher's commitment to student support, academic excellence, and community collaboration is energizing," said BCSD Superintendent Dr. Anthony Dixon. "Her love for Hanahan is evident, and I am confident that she will strengthen the relationship between all Hanahan Schools, encourage and facilitate student growth, and share her homegrown love of HES with everyone she encounters."
