Goose Creek Elementary is greeting Thanksgiving with open arms and a lot of balloons.

Goose Creek Elementary's second graders recently read the book, "Balloons Over Broadway," which covers the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. Inspired by the book, the school's second graders decided to host its own parade, calling it "Balloons Over Foster Creek."

The event took place Nov. 20 in the school's bus loop with a police escort and Principal Kellie Gebhardt dressed as a turkey. The festivities wrapped up with a visit from Santa Claus atop a firetruck.

Other students at the school served as spectators. Cheerleaders and band students from Goose Creek High participated as well.
