Berkeley County School District would like to recognize the following students for placing in the first-ever district-wide Martin Luther King, Jr. essay/poster contest.
With January being Martin Luther King, Jr.’s month of birth, the BCSD Division of Inclusive Excellence and Student Support invited students to participate in the contest; the theme was “Leadership and Service” and students were challenged to reflect on the qualities of leadership and service exemplified by Dr. King and how those can be applied to an individual’s own life. The district received 261 submissions in the contest.
The winning students were recognized during a special Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast event held by the district on Jan. 23. Breakfast was provided by the district’s Child Nutrition Staff.
First place winners received $75 Visa gift cards; second place received $50 and third place received $30. The teacher of the winning students will also receive a $30 gift card.
