Berkeley County School District announced important grade configuration updates for the upcoming school year, aimed at enhancing curriculum alignment, optimizing school capacity, and fostering a more effective learning environment for students. These changes reflect the district's ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring that every student receives the support they need to succeed throughout their academic journey.
Beginning in August 2025, the following changes will take effect across the district:
Cane Bay Middle: 5th grade will transition to Cane Bay Elementary.
Cross Elementary: 6th grade will transition to Cross High School.
Philip Simmons Middle: 5th grade will transition to Philip Simmons Elementary.
These adjustments are designed to create a more seamless and cohesive educational experience by improving curriculum continuity and aligning grade levels with developmental needs. By moving 6th grade to Cross High School, middle school-aged students, like their peers across the district, will receive a more focused and developmentally appropriate middle school experience. Moving 5th grade to elementary schools will align students’ experiences with their 5th grade peers across the district, while also allowing the district to better align curriculum and support to meet their developmental needs.
"We are committed to making decisions that prioritize success and best outcomes for our students," said Superintendent Dr. Anthony Dixon. "These changes will allow us to better align our curriculum, support student development, and create a more positive learning environment for all students."
