
Our teachers were hard at work today learning about new ways to better lead their classrooms and support BCSD students. This annual professional development day, known as Conference Day, is a chance to provide teachers with tools and resources to help set students up for success.


There's a Cobra in the newest cohort for the School Leadership Executive Institute! Cane Bay Elementary's Marissa Watson is the only BCSD principal in SLEI's cohort 54. Superintendent Dixon regularly does learning walks with our school principals around their campus to experience the day-to-day environment at our schools, sometimes even with board members in tow. Recently, Dr. Dixon took a tour of Stratford High with Angelina Davenport.

Our bus drivers go the extra mile for our students! During #NationalBusDriverAppreciationWeek, show them some love and thank them for their hard work.


We had a fin-tastic time at the ribbon cutting for the Boeing Learning Lab at the Charleston Maritime Center! Four of our students will be making waves teaching the community and mentoring other South Carolina Aquarium high school interns at the Learning Lab this summer.

One word to describe Timberland High's Army JROTC Raider team? Dominant. THS's traditional Raider team was recognized by our school board for winning its fourth straight state title at last night's board meeting. #makingapositivedifference

Feb. 3-7 is National School Counseling Week, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our school counselors for the role they play in student achievement and success.


February is Black History Month! Throughout this month, we'll be highlighting African Americans who made their mark on history.

Sing it, Wolf Pups! St. Stephen Elementary's Golden Tone Chorus rocked the house and received a standing ovation at Reading Partners SC's Books and Breakfast event this morning.

In response to ongoing forecasts for wintry weather, to include the potential for snow, Berkeley County School District (BCSD) announced that schools will follow the half-day dismissal bell schedule on Tuesday, January 21. Students will learn from home and complete eLearning Day assignments on Wednesday, January 22. All schools and offices will be closed Wednesday.

Kevin Sorbanelli at Philip Simmons High is a superstar school communicator! Mr. Sorbanelli was the top Rooms user districtwide for the first half of the school year. New year, new board recognitions! Last night, Philip Simmons High's boys' and girls' cross country teams were recognized by the board for their full sweep at state! Next, Mr. Charles, Kameron and Dan Michener were recognized for Dan's video -- "Mr. Charles Makes a Difference in Kameron's Life" -- winning a National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Southeast Emmy!

Shout-out to Cane Bay Middle, Stratford High and Boulder Bluff Elementary for contributing the most funds to Trident United Way for the 2024-2025 school year. Competing against our other schools, we thanked their teachers and staff for their generosity with a celebratory breakfast.
