The energy in Berkeley High's gym was palpable Thursday morning as students filled the stands to cheer on some energetic basketball players on the court.
These were not just any basketball players; these were students from Berkeley High and Hanahan High's special services classrooms, joining together with their buddies from the general education classes to enjoy a fun morning.
"March Madness" at this event means breaking down barriers and promoting inclusion among students of all abilities. Students with special needs enjoyed playing different games on the court with the help from their buddies; they played a relay race, a game of tic tac toe and a scrimmage, among other activities.
It did not matter if the ball even went into the basket (although some of those jump shots would give Shaq a run for his money); students in the stands cheered as if they were watching an NBA game.
