“These singers completed a very rigorous audition and were selected as some of the best high singers in the country,” Bennett said.
They will travel to Cincinnati in February to represent Cane Bay High at the national level.

Cane Bay High’s choral program has had a very eventful year so far. Earlier this month, the Cane Bay Choirs travelled to Georgia Southern University for the “Southern Sings” Invitational Choral festival. Cobra Chorale and Vox Bellator competed against 18 other choirs from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.
“This competition is by invitation only and brings together some of the best choral programs in the southeast,” Bennett said. “oth Chorale and Vox Bellator gave outstanding performances and represented our school, community and state with professionalism and class.”
Cobra Chorale was named the overall "Grand Champion," being recognized as the highest scoring performing choir out of 20 choirs – Bennett said this is a major accomplishment for this ensemble and the choral program as a whole, as the level of competition was exceptionally high.
“We are very proud of their accomplishment and their performance,” Bennett said.
In addition to the aforementioned accolades, Bennett was recently named a semifinalist for the 2023 GRAMMY Music Educator Award. There are approximately 25 semifinalists, representing music education programs in multiple states. Bennett is the only semifinalist for South Carolina – read more.
The school also had a lengthy list of students who recently qualified for All-State Chorus.
