In spring, Berkeley County School District had 13 students win regional Gold Key awards from Scholastic, which caused their work to be considered at the national level. Now the results are in, and we have three Scholastic Art & Writing Award medalists in our midst!
Makayla Coppus from Cane Bay High won a Gold Medal for her sculpture, "Dababy & Lil Baby." Her piece will be exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education in New York City in late fall.
From Goose Creek High, Conner Poss and Erik Herrera won Silver Medals for their poetry. Poss won one Silver Medal for her poem, "The Woman in the Mirror." Herrera won two Silver Medals, one for "survival guide for a yellow stray." and the other for "To Shed Skin."
All students will have their work displayed digitally on the Scholastic Art & Writing Award gallery in July.
