R-E-A-D-I-N-G,
Reading, reading is the key!
Cainhoy Elementary students started off an exciting assembly on the morning of December 2 with some cheers to encourage one another to keep on reading.
They might not have known it, but for the past month, students have participated in a contest while they worked on their i-Ready reading lessons. i-Ready is an online assessment and instruction tool teachers use to support students in reading and math proficiency. In the contest, students were monitored for following their i-Ready lessons and completing tasks within a certain amount of time per week.
As a result of their hard work, Cainhoy Elementary is being recognized as an "i-Ready Super School" for the next month. This is the second elementary school of the year to receive the recognition.
Superintendent Dr. Anthony Dixon and Coordinator of Innovation Jennifer Croley were among a few district officials who swung by the school Friday morning to present Cainhoy Elementary with a banner as the students went nuts (a few busted out some celebratory dance moves).
"We are so proud of Cainhoy," Croley told the students. "We are so proud of your accomplishments. You beat out every single elementary school in the entire county."
The students were challenged to keep making progress in their i-Ready diagnostics during the upcoming month to see if they can retain their title.
In addition, Principal Kerry Daugherty recognized a handful of students who successfully completed 25 or more lessons in the first quarter, plus three students who completed at least 50 reading lessons. These students were invited to join in a group photo with the banner and district officials.
Way to go, Cainhoy Elementary!
