Berkeley County School District and other public school districts across South Carolina were recently notified that fee-based streaming of athletic events is no longer authorized.
The State Department of Education asked the District, on behalf of its schools, to reference Title 47 of the Code of Federal Regulations in our communication of the issue.
“Eligible supported services provided at a discount under this [Universal Service Support for Schools and Libraries] subpart shall not be sold, resold, or transferred in consideration of money or any other thing of value…” (see 47 C.F.R. § 54.513).
Impacted by this situation are any streaming services provided by our high schools at athletic events, including but not limited to the NFHS Network.
If you subscribe to such a service to view Berkeley County School District high school events, you may want to consider canceling the subscription as the district is not affiliated with any fee-based streaming service and does not authorize fee-based streaming of Berkeley County School District games from any school property.
