It is not just any cohort – it is a cohort of STAR educators.
Goose Creek High social studies and law education teacher Amanda Cooper has been selected to be a part of the spring 2025 STAR Teacher Seminar Cohort. The acronym stands for “Strategies for Teacher Advancement and Renewal.” Cooper is one of only 10 teachers in the state who was selected for this program, which recognizes and rewards outstanding veteran teachers. The program is sponsored by the Palmetto State Teachers Association and the Foundation for Professional Development.
Cooper was surprised with the news Monday morning when Goose Creek High administrators swung by her classroom, along with Toni Chewning, Director of Association Activities for the Palmetto State Teachers Association. Cooper will now participate in an all-expense paid week-long seminar later this spring.
Teachers have to apply to be selected for the program, which is geared toward connecting outstanding teachers with each other and reinforcing their love for teaching. The first STAR seminar was held in 1994, and since that time more than 550 teachers from across the state have been honored as STAR teachers.
