Ashley McAlister

Ashley McAlister joined the Berkeley County School District as a teacher at Devon Forest Elementary in 1997. After devoting a decade of service in the classroom, McAlister assumed responsibilities as an ACT 135 school-wide curriculum facilitator and assistant principal at Daniel Island School. In 2010, McAlister was shared as the assistant principal at Howe Hall AIMS and Westview Elementary (WVE), and continued to work with the WVE Whales for six additional years. For the past six years, McAlister has served as the assistant principal of Howe Hall AIMS.

"Ms. McAlister is poised and ready to assume the leadership of Howe Hall AIMS," said BCSD Superintendent Dr. Anthony Dixon. "She is a seasoned administrator, and her passion for HHA, her students, and the arts shined bright during her interview. We are excited to support her in this new role, and have no doubt that our Chameleons will continue their pursuit of excellence in arts education under the leadership of Ms. McAlister."

When asked what makes Howe Hall AIMS such a special school, McAlister said, "Our unique infusion of the arts by our exceptional educators and our devoted school community are what sets us apart from other art programs."

She went on to say that Howe Hall AIMS embraces the Berkeley County School District’s mission to unleash the power and potential of education through an arts-infused curriculum which promotes strong academic standards in an active learning environment. The school is a beacon of creativity.

"I am honored to continue my work with the amazing students, staff, and families of the Howe Hall AIMS community.” McAlister added. “This school has a legacy that is 'once a chameleon, always a chameleon', and I want us to keep making this community proud to be Howe Hall AIMS Chameleons.  I am excited that we will continue to be innovative with our arts programs, challenge our students academically, and share our story."

McAlister received her M. Ed. in Elementary School Administration from The Citadel and her B.S. in Elementary Education from the College of Charleston.
