September 7th and 8th were both "grits and grandparents" sort of days at Mount Holly Elementary.

Grandparents Day is nationally recognized on the first Sunday after Labor Day. To celebrate the day and show some appreciation for the special bond these role models have with their grandchildren, Mount Holly Elementary elected to host a two-day event this week.

Parents and grandparents of the third through fifth-graders came out to visit the school on Wednesday and then the youngest learners' grandparents visited on Thursday. A handful of parents and other family members also participated in the event.

The school's Grandparents Day program included a photo opp with a backdrop in the multipurpose room, followed by breakfast in the cafeteria; everyone had a choice of grits to choose from, plus some fresh fruit and sausage. Grandparents were also invited to check out the school's Book Fair in the media center. As a departing gift, the grandparents were given large print-outs of the portrait photos they took in the multipurpose room.

A special "thank you" goes out to all the family members and volunteers who made Grandparents Day at Mount Holly Elementary special!
