Molly Spearman sitting with students

Cooperation, collaboration and laughter -- that's what Superintendent Molly Spearman, members of her team and Berkeley County School District administrators saw on a tour of Nexton Elementary this week.

On Tuesday, Superintendent Spearman visited the school to discuss the iplementation of the iLead program. The program was adopted at the school this year after 2021 District Teacher of the Year, Brittne' Guerry heard about it in November.

Ms. Guerry brought the program to her principal for consideration, and work from the program began with students in January.

The results were positive, and as Spearman toured the school, she said the results were visible.

The program’s implementation was teacher-led. Teachers took ownership of the program and embedded it into their everyday curriculum. Students have also taken ownership of the program and ownership of their actions.

"It was very inspiring to see this initiative in action today, which focuses on choices, attitude, commitment, and leadership," BCSD Superintendent Deon Jackson said. "I look forward to hearing more about the success of this program at Nexton."
