Ed Leibe's creative writing class at Philip Simmons High recently organized an open mic poetry slam-style coffee shop event in the school's media center.
The event was held in celebration of the class's poetry unit. Students enjoyed coffee and snacks, courtesy of school librarian Connie McClanahan. They also played jazz music, dressed as Beatniks and read original poems.
"It was fun and the students did a great job," Leibe said.
