Berkeley County School District is excited to share that six football players have been named to the 2024 Touchstone Energy Bowl roster.

Additionally, two staff members have been selected to participate in the game; Timberland High Head Coach Greg Wright is included as part of the coaches lineup and Cross High’s Cortney Bowers will serve as an athletic trainer.

The Touchstone Energy Bowl, formerly known as the North-South game, is an annual football game that features all-star football players from North and South Carolina. This year’s lineup will take the field at noon on Dec. 21 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach.

Congratulations to the following students and staff who will represent Berkeley County School District this weekend.

Students

kevin boone

Kevin Boone – Berkeley High

Selected position: wide receiver

Head football coach Eric Lodge described Kevin Boone as an excellent young man with high character and great work ethic, along with a student with exceptional talent. Boone led the Stags in receiving his Junior and Senior years, ending his senior campaign with 33 receptions for 721 yards and eight touchdowns. His on-field play has awarded him with earning back-to-back first team All-Region finishes, as well as first team All-State as a junior.

karmello jones

Karmello Jones – Cross High

Selected position: defensive back

Karmello Jones was a three-year starter at linebacker and two-year starter at running back during his time at Cross. He leads the entire state in points scored with 256 points this year. Jones is also an accomplish wrestler, finishing third in the state last year. Head Football Coach Shaun Wright said Jones is a leader in both the classroom and on the field, and that he is very deserving of this opportunity to represent Cross and Berkeley County in the Prestigious North South All Star game.

darriel porcher

Darriel Porcher – Philip Simmons High

Selected position: defensive back

Porcher has been a member of the Philip Simmons football program since he was in seventh grader on the junior varsity team. Porcher has served on the varsity team for three years and has been named All-Region and All-State for his work on the field. He was also named his football team’s captain. Head Coach Eric Bendig said Porcher works hard at his craft and is one of the top defensive backs in the state, and that the school is very proud of how much he has given to the Philip Simmons football program, school and community.

DJ crawford

DJ Crawford – Stratford High

Selected position: tight end

DJ Crawford has been a three-year varsity starter for Stratford High. He has played DL/OL and this year moved to tight end. Head Coach Dennie McDaniel said he is a hard worker, and a gifted athlete with size and ability. Crawford’s mother, Salome Crawford, is a also a BCSD teacher at Sangaree Middle. McDaniel said the Stratford community is excited to see Crawford represent his school and district this weekend.

Kaseam Liferidge - Timberland High

Selected position: defensive lineman

Head Coach Greg Wright said teachers, community members and coaches cheer for Kaseam Liferidge because not only is he a good football player, but “an even better young man.” Liferidge has been named an All-Region and All-State player and is an early signee; he signed to the division one program at the University of West Georgia.

Jorden Timmons – Timberland High

Selected position: defensive back

Jorden Timmons is a Defensive Back who excels in honor classes at school. He was named All-Region in both football and track, and has served as a captain for the football team. Wright said Timmons is well respected by Timberland faculty, staff and classmates, and the school is confident that he will excel in his future endeavors.

Cortney Bowers – Cross High

Bowers has been a certified athletic trainer since 2013 and is in her sixth year at Cross High. She previously served in Colleton County and at Pinewood Preparatory. She has previously had the honor of being the athletic trainer for the North-South basketball game and the Carolinas All Star game for basketball. She is a part of the governmental affairs committee with SCATA, which has helped work on getting the state recognized as a licensure state. She was named the 2022-2023 Athletic Trainer of the Year for the South Carolina Coaches Association.

Coach Greg Wright – Timberland High

Greg Wright is in his 10th year as a head coach. He has coached in three state championships, and several region championships. His most recent state championship was in 2018 at Dutch Fork High, where his players were undefeated. Wright is honored to coach in the North-South game after being a former player in the All-Star game in 2001 as a Cross High student. He later became a four-year letterman football player at the University of South Carolina.
