Philip Simmons High’s AFJROTC program has demonstrated its commitment to community service in the past year.
The school’s program is one out of approximately 870 AFJROTC units worldwide. It is one of 44 schools that has earned the “Silver Star” Community Service with Excellence Award for the 2022-2023 school year.
In addition to being one of 44 schools, Philip Simmons High is one of three schools in the state to receive the award from Headquarters Air Force Junior ROTC.
Students enrolled in AFJROTC programs regularly complete service hours throughout the school year. The award recognizes the top five percent of all AFJROTC units based on community service in support of schools and local communities. The award is earned by units with the highest per cadet average of community service hours that are planned and conducted by cadets under the supervision of their instructors.
Congratulations Philip Simmons High AFJROTC!

Berkeley County School District is currently monitoring the forecasts and receiving regular updates from Berkeley County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service on Tropical Storm Idalia. At this time, there are no changes to school operations. Any changes to operations will be communicated to staff and parents.

The South Carolina Department of Education purchased and provided Berkeley County School District and other school districts in our state with My Ride K-12 for communication of bus routes and delays. The app has been unable to provide parents with consistent delay information. BCSD is now tracking bus delays for parents using Google documents.

Philip Simmons High Picture Day will be on Thursday, August 31 for all grades! Senior makeup pictures will be taken at this time as well.

Beginning Monday, Berkeley County School District parents and guardians will begin to receive invites for Rooms.
Rooms is a platform that lives within the new BCSD mobile app. It supplements school and district news and information by providing direct communication tools for parents, teachers, athletic coaches, club advisors, etc.
Our goal is to streamline communication and minimize the number of apps parents and guardians need for communication.

Please note that not all teachers and schools are utilizing Rooms at this time, but there is a plan to launch all schools on the platform in the future.
**Additional notes**
Parents will still need to use the PowerSchool Parent portal for academic information.
Rooms will not replace student learning management systems (Schoology).

With the first day of school less than one week away, we want to make sure families are aware of the new transportation features that pertain to bus riders. Learn more about My Ride K-12 and the student transportation tag program at www.bcsdschools.net/article/1203059.

The 2023/24 student parking procedures have changed for the upcoming school year! Students will now have an assigned spot that coordinates with their parking pass number. Student drivers will need to complete the google parking registration form (https://forms.gle/GNrmD96VKWVHi8HW7) and bring the $60 parking registration fee to the front office. Once the completed form has been verified and the payment received the student can select from the available parking spots.
Seniors will have the first opportunity to select their parking spots of choice on Tuesday, August 15th from 9am to 11am.
