On March 25th at 6pm, the PTSAs from PSH, PSM and DIS are jointly hosting Screenagers Under the Influence in the PSH auditorium. This documentary focuses on the impact of media on teens’ decision making in relation to gaming addiction and substance abuse such as vaping, tobacco, drugs, and alcohol use. The film debunks myths and depicts strategies parents and schools can use to encourage healthy decision making, support teen mental health, set limits, and create healthy home environments. There will be a panel of professionals on site to answer questions after the film. The panel will include medical doctors from MUSC, Dean Stephens from Wake Up Carolina Berkeley County, and Anchors of Hope Counseling Center to name a few. In this post pandemic era, with the increase in anxiety, sadness, and depression, there has never been a more critical time to support the mental well being of our children and to teach essential life skills. This program is designed for parents and their children. Participants are encouraged to pre-register for this event using the link here or the QR code on the attached flyers. This is a free event. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScLaY3fq63qe8Hq79V-IK3ClCJ1JoGDSpYB9t6WmaHyuNuJAg/viewform

It is always a great time to get students excited about reading, but this week is extra special because it is Read Across America Week! Philip Simmons High football players made a special appearance at the elementary school this morning to read aloud with students in the younger grade levels and encourage them to keep reading. The Iron Horses will also visit Cainhoy Elementary and Daniel Island School's classrooms this week. Grab a book and read!
