Friday night was our 1st and 2nd grade show, Be the Hero! Our 1st and 2nd grade chameleons created this show during their infusions. They wrote the script and even created an original song for the show! It was an incredible performance! Thank you to our fine arts team, and our 1st and 2nd grade teachers. None of this would be possible without our amazing teachers! Way to go HHA

Today HHA participated in Purple UP! This district wide spirit day was one way we show support for military kids across the district! During the Month of the Military Child, Purple Up! Day recognizes some of the military's most unsung heroes - their children. The day encourages everyone to wear purple representing all branches of the military and showing unity with each other

Calling all Chameleons! We would love to celebrate all our HHA alumni that graduate this year!! Please join us on Friday May 17th at 8:30am for our Grad Parade!

Things are back in full swing after spring break, here at HHA! Our second through fifth graders had a wonderful field trip to the Gaillard Center to see Ranky Tanky perform. Ranky Tanky is a Grammy Award winning ensemble that specializes in jazz-influenced arrangements of traditional Gullah music.

Last week our fifth grade students had a wonderful artist in residence with fiber artist Kristy Bishop. Students learned about natural fabric dyeing, practiced the scientific method with various dyes, and created a dye chart. Using the chart, students were able to plan and create a piece of fabric art. Kristy Bishop is a fiber artist with expertise in natural dyes, indigo, weaving, and textile surface design. She has been a partner with ECM since 2014. Living and working in Charleston, Kristy spends much of her time teaching fiber techniques to students in public schools, adult workshops, and summer camps. Thank you to ECM, Kristy and our fifth grade team for making this possible!

Howe Hall AIMS' very own Cecile Potter placed second out of all of the Berkeley County Elementary students at the Berkeley County Clerk Art show on March 28th! Cecile created a multimedia collage inspired by artist Georgia O'Keeffe using watercolor and tempera paint. Congratulations Cecile!!!

Last Thursday we had a special performance by the College of Charleston's Opera students. They performed their rendition of Jack and the Beanstalk. All our students got to see this incredible performance! We are so lucky to have such talented artists visit out school.

Last week our second grade students created and sold products and services to our kindergarteners for part of their unit on economics. Kindergarteners got to shop and purchase their favorite items! What great life skills our chameleons are learning here at HHA!

Spring has sprung! BCSD Spring Break runs April 1-5. All students return to school on April 8.

Today we celebrated the start of spring break with our school wide field day! Students rotated through stations such as tug of war, scooter races, obstacle course, bombardment and so much more! Thank you to Mrs. Pond for organizing such a spectacular day and to all our teachers for manning stations! We are so glad so many families came to participate. Happy Spring Break!

Today we celebrated our Terrific Kids for the month of March! These Terrific Kids were chosen by their peers and teachers for their amazing character trait of perseverance. Thank you to our wonderful PTA for providing a delicious treat for our celebration. Congratulations to our TERRIFIC Chameleons for March!

Bravo! A phenomenal performance by the students in the BCSD Elementary All-County Chorus! Thank you to Mrs. Liebenow for preparing our students! Former AIMS teacher, Ms. Kathy Clark, was the clinician for this event as well!

Our Chameleons are math whizs and now the entire school district knows it! We were awarded the i-Ready Super School banner today for having the highest percentage of passed i-Ready math lessons in February among elementary schools.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for our Family Night! We had a great PTA meeting, followed by interactive sessions where parents got to experience infusions. Families were able to attend sessions such as "Dancing Plant Parts," "Math and PE," "Hip-Hop multiplication," "Examining Graffiti Art with the Berlin Wall" and so many more! We also had a great turn out for our book fair! Thank you to our incredible staff for putting together a great night and thank you to our amazing HHA families for participating!

Today our fifth graders got to do a great math infusion with Ms. Pond and Ms. Broman. Ms. Pond set up a store in our multipurpose room and students had thirty seconds to "shop." Once they had their items they were tasked with calculating the total of all their items. Students were able to practice multiplying decimals. Way to go Chameleons!!!

We always feel lucky to teach our incredible students! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

This week, 2nd graders learned theatre and writing from Engaging Creative Minds artist, Jeff Jordan. Jeff Jordan taught theatre at Ashley River Creative Arts for 25 years. Students created dramatic presentations in response to prompts and wrote descriptive narratives. Students participated in acting warm-ups, brainstorming, acting exercises, improvisation, and writing. Students acted in short scenes.

Thank you to all our wonderful PTA volunteers who came today so our teachers could have a duty free lunch! We really appreciate it! And thank you to everyone who donated pies to help us celebrate Pi day. They were all delicious!

Here at HHA we value creating opportunities for our students to learn about careers in the arts. This week Carolina Studios, a nonprofit organization teaching students in South Carolina creativity and computer skills through music education, provided a hands on experience for our 3rd-5th graders. Carolina Studios provides a mobile recording studio, that gives students the opportunity of musical expression through recording their ideas on a desktop computer. Students were able to create musical loops using the bus's software and explored the program Logic Pro X. Our chameleons had a great time!
