This week our 5th graders got to participate in a long standing HHA tradition. Sculptor and instructor Olga Yukhno, our artist in residence, guided our 5th graders through glazing the clay portraits they made back in January. These portraits will be hung around HHA alongside all our previous 5th graders. Olga is from Russia and currently resides in Columbia SC. She is a highly awarded sculptor and instructor. Thank you Olga and our 5th grade team for this awesome experience!

This morning we celebrated Read Across Spring with an incredible book character parade! Thank you to Mrs. Rodriguez for organizing and to all our chameleons for participating! Happy Reading!

This week our kindergarten students reviewed CVC words and adding numbers up to 20 while programming Bee-Bots robots. Exposure to programming at early ages is important because much like learning a foreign language, a child's brain has more plasticity and sets children up for success in later years. Way to go Chameleons!

Our school social workers do a tremendous job supporting our students! The pearls of wisdom they provide to our school communities are invaluable. Be sure to thank a school social worker this week for the difference they make in BCSD! #SSWWeek2024 #makingapositivedifference

Yesterday our Chameleon Choraleers sang the National Anthem at the College of Charleston's basketball game. It was an impressive performance! Thank you to our amazing music teacher, Mrs. Liebenow! We are so proud of our incredible students!

Today students, teachers, and parents celebrated Kids Heart Challenge with a fabulous finale. Students, parents, and teachers jumped and exercised their heart while raising awareness and funds for The American Heart Association! This is the 22nd year our chameleons have been participating. This year we raised over $18,200. Way to go HHA!

HHA chameleons showed their support for Rare Disease Day by wearing bright colors. Rare Disease Day raises awareness for diseases that affect fewer then 1 in 2,000 people.

HAPPY LEAP DAY!! Our kindergarten, first and second graders jumped for joy with some surprise hopping friends to celebrate this extra day of instruction. Thank you to Megan Wickline for donating these cute frogs and our amazing volunteers for hiding them! We hope everyone did something extra special with their extra day!

Today our 5th graders got to see a wonderful performance by the Marrington Middle School of the Arts orchestra and jazz band. They did an amazing job and we enjoyed listening to these musicians!

Surf's up with school breakfast! Did you know next week is National School Breakfast Week? For eating school breakfast, students will be entered to win daily and grand prizes from our child nutrition services team. #makingapositivedifference

The Berkeley County School District Dance and Theatre Showcase was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon! ADC and all of the other students did an amazing job! It was fantastic to see some HHA Alumni on the stage for the middle and high school performances as well.

#DYK February is Love The Bus Month and this week is Bus Driver Appreciation Week? Our bus drivers and bus monitors play a critical role in ensuring our students get to school safely. Take a moment to thank them for their hard work this week! #makingapositivedifference #lovethebus

Today we had another great performance at HHA! Columbia Marionette Theatre's "Flora & Floppy Go to the Dentist" puppet show came to Howe Hall AIMS today for our kindergarten through second graders. Students learned about Dental Health Month, taking care of your teeth, and what it is like to go to the dentist.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! On Friday our PTA treated our teachers and staff to a delicious Soup-er Bowl celebration! They provided several delicious soups, toppings, sides, desserts and drinks! They also stayed in the cafeteria and provided duty free lunch for our teachers. We are so thankful to our incredible volunteers for supporting our school!

Today, millions of people will celebrate Lunar New Year all across the globe! As part of their geography unit on culture, 3rd graders explored Lunar New Year customs from different countries in Asia, and even in big cities across America. They listened to traditional Korean stories during reading class and Ms. Dragotta wore her traditional hanbok. They researched cultural aspects of Lunar New Year, produced cultural artifacts such as red lanterns, Nian the dragon, and Chinese drums, and performed a Chinese New Year parade and lion dance for kindergarteners and 1st graders. Finally, they presented the red envelope gifts from Ms. Earl to the younger students. Gong Hei Fat Choi!

This week our first graders had a great time with Cody Mathews as he join us for as an artist in residence. Cody is a photographer and educator with over a decade of experience in the classroom. They learned about and incorporated the basic fundamentals of photography to better understand light and its effects on different objects. Students started by creating “cameraless photos” in order to understand how to approach creating an image. They made sun prints as we went back to the days of film photography and hunted around the room with our iPads to find photos with different lighting effects. On our last day we took instant portraits of partners and even designed the frame to put it in. All throughout the week students worked as partners or in groups to direct and pose subjects in order to learn what it’s like together on a photo shoot. Thank you Mr. Mathews our chameleons are lucky to have this experience with you!

As National School Counselors week wraps up we want to give our AMAZING school counselor, Ms. Knight a huge shout out! We are so lucky to have her here at HHA. She is always willing to jump in and help. She teaches the greatest lessons; and this year she brought the Terrific Kids program to Howe Hall. Lets hear it for Ms. Knight!
