This weekend the crew of USCGC STRATTON WMSL 752 and a few lucky friends and family members including Junior, Luke Woodall, pulled into home port at Base Alameda. HHS Class of 2022 Alumni, and brother to Luke, Hank Woodall, has been gone since right after the first of the year on an Alaskan patrol. Luke flew into San Diego Friday morning and hopped on board for the last leg of Stratton’s journey home in what’s called a Tiger Cruise. Luke got to spend the weekend on board and learn about the Coast Guard and the Stratton’s mission. #itsagreatdaytobeahawk Please reach out to HHS to submit information for us to share the amazing accomplishments of our students and alumni. Last Friday, our Renaissance Club sponsored a Faculty/Student basketball game for the student body. Everyone had a great time and it was a good game, but the faculty ultimately triumphed with a final score of 51 to 31! Big thanks to everyone who came out to watch the game and everyone who helped make this a success. Hanahan High School is proud to announce that Ashlyn Mouzon participated in the 2024 Carolina Band Spring Experience at the Garnet and Black Spring Football game. High School students who registered to join the Carolina Band on Saturday, April 20 were given the opportunity to perform with the Carolina band. Students participated in a music rehearsal and performed several pep tunes during the game. Way to go Ashlyn! #itsagreatdaytobeahawk

Last week Thursday, April 18 the Berkeley County School District celebrated the Turnaround Student of the Year as nominated by their school. BCSD’s annual Turnaround Achievement Award program is a long-standing tradition that recognizes students who have tackled hardships and obstacles, both at school and at home, but went above and beyond to better themselves for the sake of their academics. Hanahan High School was proud to recognize current 11th grader Samantha Wanner as their recipient. Great job Samantha and keep up the great work! #itsagreatdaytobeahawk

Congratulations to the Hanahan Hawk Battalion JROTC Rifle Team under the guidance of LTC Ellerbee. They competed in a Rifle Meet this weekend at Timberland Wolves High School. They won 1st place Overall for the Prone Position. They also had one individual who placed 3rd in Individual Prone Position. Congratulations to Olive Soricelli for achieving 2nd place out of all high schools in the district in the BCSD Clerk of Court Art Show! She is a 10th grade Art 2 student, and this impressive still life was her first time working with charcoal. We are so proud...great job representing the Fine Arts at HHS!

Spring has sprung! BCSD Spring Break runs April 1-5. All students return to school on April 8.

22 Hanahan High HOSA kiddos enjoyed education, competition, volunteering, and networking this past Wed-Fri at their State Leadership Conference. We had 22 young ladies compete in categories. 9 students competed in testing only events, while the other 13 competed in testing events where they are able to move onto a Round 2, if they place high enough in their category. I was ecstatic to see several students place within the top 10 of their categories and move onto Round 2. Audrianna Amara and Sydnee Echols in CERT Skills (placed within the top 10 groups) Elliott Driggers and Hannah Patrick in Health Career Display Lyndsey Newman in Nursing Assisting (placed within the top 10 competitors) Kelsey Grosskopf in Nursing Assisting (placed within the top 10 competitors) Brynn McSwain in Vet Science (placed within the top 10 competitors Ava Hoecht was recognized with a Barbara James Service Award for 250+ hours of service. Ayanna Andal was awarded a $500 scholarship from Lowcountry AHEC And last, but certainly not least, Lily Nguyen placed 3rd in Dental Terminology and is eligible to go to Houston, TX this June and compete for our state! Hanahan High School would like to announce the Teacher and Staff of the 3rd Quarter as voted on by the staff. Our Teacher of the Quarter is Math Teacher Kathleen Williams. Ms. Williams was presented a gift certificate for $250 to Halls Chophouse for this recognition. Our Staff of the Quarter is Registrar Stacie Smith. Mrs. Smith was presented $50 in gift cards compliments of Herff Jones and a 90 minute throwing session at Throw Lumber Jill's.
