As a baseball fan, I like to say that we have rounded third and are heading home for the winning run. Students will be home on Monday so our teachers can put the finishing touches on third quarter grades. When students return to the “New” Sedgefield, they will begin the fourth quarter of the school year, with just 13 instructional days before Spring Break.
We have several exciting events taking place over the next three weeks. Students will participate in DRC Beacon testing, Club Day, our fundraiser at Huey Magoo’s, Pie an Administrator (who doesn’t want to pie Dr. C?), and our 8th grade field trip to the International African American Museum.
I am excited to see the progress our students have made from August until now. Please encourage your student to take their time and do their very best on the DRC Beacon assessments. These tests give students an opportunity to practice their test-taking skills and build resiliency as they prepare for the high-stakes SC READY assessments.
These assessments play an important role in our school’s report card rating. We are currently five points away from moving from Below Average to Average. Our teachers and students have put in the work, and we have a clear path forward.
Please continue to encourage your student to stay focused, embrace the grind, and finish strong. We need that winning run in the bottom of the ninth, and I know the New Sedgefield will deliver.
See you at home plate.

As the weather begins to warm up, we are excited to see students enjoying the spring season. With the warmer temperatures, we want to kindly remind families that students are still expected to adhere to the Berkeley County School District (BCSD) dress code. Following these guidelines helps maintain a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment for all students.
Please review the middle school dress code with your child:
Walking shorts are appropriate; short shorts and mini skirts/dresses are not allowed.
Sunglasses may not be worn inside the building, except prescription (RX) sunglasses.
Hats, head coverings, or handkerchiefs are not allowed inside, unless a physician provides documentation for medical reasons.
Tank tops, halter tops, fish-net shirts, cut-off shirts, and bare midriffs are not permitted.
Gloves may not be worn inside the building.
Suspenders must be properly worn on the shoulders.
Pants must be worn at the appropriate waist level and may not be see-through.
Belts must be worn properly, buckled, and tucked into loops.
Clothing with vulgar or obscene language or symbols, or that depicts alcohol, tobacco, drugs, weapons, or sexual content is not allowed.
The principal may establish additional guidelines consistent with this policy.
We greatly appreciate your partnership in helping our students dress appropriately and stay ready to learn. Thank you for your continued support in maintaining a positive and safe school environment!
Please find the entire policy on BCSD's website!
Warm regards,
Dr. C

In recognition of Black History Month, our 8th grade team is excited to provide students with the opportunity to visit the African American Museum in Charleston during school hours on March 24, 25, and 26. This meaningful experience will allow students to deepen their understanding of history, culture, and the significant contributions of African Americans.
To ensure a positive and safe experience for all participants, students must meet established behavior expectations in order to attend. Beginning February 10, 2026, students may not have any referrals resulting in ISS or OSS and may not accumulate more than two total referrals.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school. We appreciate your continued support.
Warm regards,
Dr. C

Hello SFM Families and Guardians,
As we reach the midpoint of this important grading period, I would like to share a few reminders. Please note that students will not be in school on Friday, and schools will also be closed on Monday in observance of Presidents’ Day.
This is a critical time as we prepare for the SC READY assessments in early May. In March, students will participate in a testing checkpoint through DRC Beacon. Over the next few months, the consistent effort students demonstrate each day will play a meaningful role in their performance on the SC READY assessments, which are now less than three months away. Our goal is for every student to finish strong—like the Seattle Seahawks!
If you have read all the way to this point, thank you for being an incredible parent and a valued supporter of the work we do at SFM. Your partnership makes a difference in the success of our students.
Warm regards,
Dr. C
