Due to forecasts for continued severe weather resulting in area power outages, and concerns regarding impacts on roads and facilities throughout the evening, Berkeley County School District (BCSD) schools and offices will operate on a 2-hour weather delay on Wednesday, January 10. There will be no before school care programs, but after school programs and athletics will resume normal operations on Wednesday. Bus riders will report to bus stops two hours later than their regularly scheduled time. Information concerning school start times and bell schedules when operating on a 2-hour weather delay is available on the BCSD website here: https://www.bcsdschools.net/o/bcsd/page/school-bell-schedules. District officials are continuing to work closely with the Berkeley County Emergency Management Department, local power providers, and law enforcement to monitor the weather and potential impact on the county. Officials are also receiving regular updates from the National Weather Service. As safety and security is our number one priority, all decisions are made with the safety of students, staff, and families in mind.

Just a reminder regarding our dress code for students. We are starting to have more issues with students wearing slippers/house shoes to school. We just want to keep everyone safe! Thank you for your help and support!!! In order to better prepare our students for the world of work, we will enforce the following dress code. Although these clothing items may be appropriate in some contexts, in the formal environment of school they are not deemed appropriate. Unacceptable attire for Sangaree Middle School (this is not an all-inclusive list and administration reserves the right to make adjustments deemed appropriate): 1) Pajamas or lounging attire; 2) Slippers; 3) Spaghetti straps (4 finger rule) or tops that show midriff area are not permitted at school; 4) Clothing that displays gangs, violence, weapons, drugs, or other offensive content are unacceptable; 5) Fish Hooks that are worn on the bill of caps; 6) Pants with holes/rips that do not meet the fingertip rule (Holes must be below fingertips when arms are held at one's sides.) ; 7) Shorts/skirts/dresses that do not meet the fingertip rule; 8) Leggings/jeggings/stockings without pockets worn as pants;** 9) See-through shirts, tank tops, muscle shirts, and cut-off shirts; ** 10) Pants must be worn at an acceptable waste level (it is not appropriate to see undergarments). **Leggings/stockings can only be worn under other garments if those garments meet the fingertip rule. In the event that a student’s clothing is determined to be inappropriate for school, the student must either change clothes, contact parent for different clothing, or report to ISS for the day. The principal or his/her designee will have the final say whether a student’s clothing is inappropriate for the learning environment of Sangaree Middle School.

Due to the potential for severe weather resulting from Hurricane Idalia, Berkeley County School District (BCSD) schools will follow the half-day dismissal bell schedule (https://www.bcsdschools.net/o/bcsd/page/school-bell-schedules) on Wednesday, August 30. Thursday, August 31, students will learn from home and complete eLearning Day assignments. All schools and offices will be closed Thursday. BCSD will resume normal operations Friday, September 1. Before and after-school care programs, activities, and athletics, to include practices and games, are canceled for Wednesday, August 30, and Thursday, August 31. Normal activities and operations will resume on Friday, September 1. On Thursday, August 31, students will complete eLearning assignments from home via Schoology, Google Classroom, SeeSaw, or other designated virtual learning platforms. Specific information about assignments will be provided by the student’s teacher and/or school. Teachers will share information regarding their office hours to support students completing eLearning assignments at home. More information here: https://www.bcsdschools.net/o/bcsd/page/elearning-day-faqs Due to the potential for severe weather, and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of students, staff, and families, the district will not operate virtual feeding sites on Wednesday or Thursday. BCSD officials work in partnership with Berkeley County Emergency Management and receive regular updates regarding the weather from the National Weather Service. As safety and security is our number one priority, officials will continue to monitor the weather and assess any resulting damage. Schools and offices will reopen and resume normal operations on Friday, September 1.

The South Carolina Department of Education purchased and provided Berkeley County School District and other school districts in our state with My Ride K-12 for communication of bus routes and delays. The app has been unable to provide parents with consistent delay information. BCSD is now tracking bus delays for parents using Google documents. Bus Delays: https://www.bcsdschools.net/busdelays

Beginning Monday, Berkeley County School District parents and guardians will begin to receive invites for Rooms. Rooms is a platform that lives within the new BCSD mobile app. It supplements school and district news and information by providing direct communication tools for parents, teachers, athletic coaches, club advisors, etc. Our goal is to streamline communication and minimize the number of apps parents and guardians need for communication. Parent Overview: https://youtu.be/upJMsLmn91Y Introducción de los padres a las habitaciones: https://youtu.be/7pyvEIc3OOU Please note that not all teachers and schools are utilizing Rooms at this time, but there is a plan to launch all schools on the platform in the future. **Additional notes** Parents will still need to use the PowerSchool Parent portal for academic information. Rooms will not replace student learning management systems (Schoology).
