Way to go, Fifth Grade! You were AMAZING!

Congratulations to our 2024 Teacher of the Year Mrs. Irimescu! Mrs. Irimescu is our Art teacher and serves students K-5. Her creativity and passion for the arts creates an incredible learning environment for all our students! She always blows us away when creating the sets for our shows. We are so lucky to have Mrs. I at HHA.

Today we got to see 5th grade’s production of Newsies Jr. It was the best and super fun to watch. Thank you to our fine arts teachers, our 5th grade teachers, and 5th grade students for all their hard work! We hope everyone can come out and see the show tomorrow night at 7pm at Goose Creek High School.

Never miss a message from your child's teacher or an important school update again! Enable notifications in the Berkeley County School District app to stay connected to anything and everything BCSD.

Our teachers are LOVED! Dozens of our students asked to fill out thank you cards for their teachers tonight while we were at the SC Stingrays game!

We had the best time at the BCSD Family Engagement Summit yesterday! Our AIMS Dance Company had an incredible performance! And we got an amazing sneak peek of our 5th grade performance Newsies Junior. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our Chameleons.

Please join us in congratulating our three Teacher of the Year finalists, Mrs. Dragotta, Mrs. Irimescu and Mrs. Harrelson . These three teachers go above and beyond for their students and our school. Thank you to all you do!

On Thursday we celebrated our Terrific Kids for the month of January! These Terrific Kids were chosen by their peers and teachers for their amazing character trait of Self-Discipline. Thank you to our wonderful PTA for providing this month's treat. Congratulations to our TERRIFIC Chameleons for January!

We had another great artist in residence last week with our 3rd graders and Cat Brantley from Sister Moon. They mapped the spread of indigo across the earth, and its impact on many cultures throughout history. They also explored the climates and abiotic factors that indigo needs to thrive. Finally, students were able to create their own indigo dyed masterpiece! We are so thankful to Cat Brantley and our 3rd grade team for this experience!!

We have been busy at Howe Hall this past week! Our 5th graders got to participate in a long standing HHA tradition. Sculptor and instructor Olga Yukhno, our artist in residence, guided our 5th graders through making their very own clay portraits. These portraits will be hung around HHA alongside all our previous 5th graders. Olga is from Russia and currently resides in Columbia SC. She is a highly awarded sculptor and instructor. We are looking forward to her returning to HHA in the spring so our students can glaze and finish their master pieces. Thank you Olga and our 5th grade team for this awesome experience!

This week our 4th graders got to experience an artist in residence, Andres Liviola, through Engaging Creative Minds. Andres Liviola is a seasoned musician and educator who specializes in traditional African drumming as a lead member of WO'SE Drum and Dance Company. Science and Music standards were combined to gain a deeper understanding of energy. Students explored scientific concepts surrounding sound waves as an effect of energy being transferred from one object to another. Thank you to ECM and Andres for this great experience!
