We had the best time today during our professional development! Dr. Seaboldt, BCSD K-5 Math Coordinator, provided training to our staff on math manipulatives. Teachers engaged in hands-on training using math manipulatives to enhance their understanding of foundational mathematical concepts. We can't wait to see these great strategies in action all throughout HHA!

Check out what our 5th graders have been up to this week! 5th graders are learning about the law of conservation of mass which states that matter cannot be created or destroyed. They have also been investigating physical and chemical changes. In this lesson, 5th graders used glowsticks to see if the law of conservation of mass applies to chemical reactions by measuring the mass of their glowsticks before and after a chemical reaction took place. If you'd like to learn more about the law of conservation of mass and chemical reactions, 5th graders made posters that are posted near the 5th grade classrooms.

Our Fifth grade Chameleons are working on their writing! Fifth grade authors need to be able to write for a variety of reasons and use varied sentence structure in their writing. After working on identifying and writing declarative, imperative, interrogative and exclamatory sentences, authors brought those different sentence structures to life by building tableaus. The groups gestures and facial expressions in the tableau convey whether their sentence declares, commands, asks or exclaims.
