Our teachers and staff made "All About Me" Boards this year to hang outside their classrooms. The boards have their mission, wildly important goal, college they attended and several pictures of family, pets and friends. Some of them even included pictures from when they were in elementary school. We enjoyed sharing them with one another and will have them on display at "Join the Team" Night September 12th 5-7 p.m.
Last week, Mrs. Wittchow's Class was learning about the scientific method by trying to save Fred the worm from his capsized boat. They had to get a life preserver on Fred only using paper clips and otherwise no hands. They were really synergizing and had a lot of fun!
Leader of the Week… Margaret WardMrs. Ward has been chosen Leader of the Week because of the passion she shows for continuous growth at SRI. As we have adopted the HMH Curriculum Mrs. Ward has taken countless hours to dissect and study the content so she is well prepared to coach our staff. She openly volunteers to team teach and model effective teaching strategies. She is a go getter and is always lifting others up. She contributes above and beyond helping us move toward achieving our school goals. Congratulations Mrs. Ward!
We appreciate our Food and Nutrition Ladies at SRI/SRE! They work hard each day to prepare delicious breakfast and lunch for our students.

For the upcoming school year, all BCSD schools will use Rooms as their direct communication tools for parents, teachers, athletic coaches, club advisors, etc. Because Rooms is located in the Berkeley County School District mobile app, this streamlines communication and minimizes the number of apps parents and guardians need for communication. If you haven't already, download the BCSD app today and turn on notifications so you never miss a message.
Berkeley County School District (BCSD) has postponed the first day of school to Thursday, August 15, giving teachers and staff more time to prepare and students an extra day of summer break. This decision comes after recent severe weather and flooding prevented access to school buildings for three days, disrupting traditional classroom and school preparation time for teachers and staff.
“We value the dedication of our teachers and staff in preparing classrooms and schools, and this additional day will allow them to better prepare to receive more than 38,000 students on Thursday,” said BCSD Superintendent Dr. Anthony Dixon. “Last week, teachers completed virtual professional development and training so now they can focus on classroom and school needs Monday through Wednesday.”
School and district offices will be open regular hours, and extracurricular activities and athletic programs will also operate according to their normal schedule. Information and schedules for school specific meet the teacher and grade specific orientation days have been shared with families by school leaders.
Dixon added, “We understand that disruptions in schedules are not easy for anyone so we appreciate the understanding of our parents and community as we work to ensure that the first day is the best it can be for students and teachers on Thursday.”
Any weather day adjustments necessary as a result of this calendar change will be reviewed and communicated, if needed, at a later date.
BCSD transitions to virtual operations today, August 9

In collaboration with county and municipal leaders, BCSD will reassess conditions Friday and throughout the weekend and provide updates, as appropriate, concerning potential access to schools and offices.

Our Family Leadership Night was held at the end of school. Our students showed their leadership skills by touring their parents around campus showing them our "Leadership Hot Spots", such as Leadership Wall, Grade Level Data, School Data Wall, Attendance P.I.G., Leader of the Week, the SRI Leader in Me Hall of Fame, Legacy Wall, Student Roles and so much more. Thank you parents for supporting Leader in Me in school and at home! Here are a few pictures of that amazing event.
It was so special to see so many former students at the graduation walk. We are so proud of each and every one of them. It made our hearts full to know they had not forgotten us! They are a role model for our current students and will be in their "next steps". Congratulations again Class of 2024!
